coats, purses and books

Okay well so much for doing nothing. Heh! I didn't think I would, but I got going this afternoon and was so pleased with how much I did. It started with our entry way/coats and then moved to the the scary task of my purses and then I was sitting on the couch staring at the pile of CRAP that annoys me daily and thought "it wouldn't take that long, I should do that and just get it over with!" and so I did!

Today part 1: Coats

This is where we come in from the cars...
This is where we hang our coats...
it took me three trips of emptying it to find those hooks...

All the junk that was hanging on those hooks(you can't see it well, but the stack is heaping): many winter coats, sweaters, 3 scarfs, five bags, Matthew's backpack, lighter jackets, a couple hats... I am surprised the weight of all that didn't do damage to the hook thing. (Thanks to a friend who drilled it into the wall studs, I guess).
the shocking amount of winter coats: 4 coats/sweaters for J and I, one hoodie, two baby snowsuits, two heavy toddler coats. All of this was rehung in the front door closet. ALL of it HUNG. Nothing thrown in there. (yay)

coat hangers after: from youngest to oldest, the coats now are hanging: 2 for Mark, 3 for Matthew (one sweat shirt), 2 for me and 1 for Jamie (2 now since he wore 1 to work)
BUT LOOK! THERE IS NOW room for guests coats and (not pictured) Matthew's backpack

Today part 2: Purses

5 purses and 2 reusable bags that act like purses. Three that hadn't been used in a LONG time, as there were size 2 diapers in two of them, (and Mark is in size 4 now) and one I KNOW I haven't used since last summer.

this is only a portion of what came out of the bags:
diapers, liners, pens, chapstick/gloss, lotion, hair bands, bobby pins, many water flavor packets, candy, (not pictured: a pile of coins, a deck of cards, my still in the package hands free cable ((phone is a year old)), a tealight, an H clip, two planners ((I thought I lost one)) and more, lots more...

the amount of trash: (yes, on the left, there that's a baby food container--full)

the amount of trash, better illustrated... ew.
I ended up putting three empty bags back in my room, have my reusable ones by the door to be used properly and have my two purses I am swapping in and out of on my desk currently.

Today part 3: book stack

I hate this shelf. Hate it. Things acquire here. WHY?! I have no idea. None. I threw out 4 broken books (books with pages missing or torn or eaten on) Why don't they get moved to the trash? I don't know. It would be painful to walk the 12 feet to the kitchen trash can, so much easier to stack them here on a stack I can't stand! See that big tall book in the back somewhere??? Yah, that's my wedding album. I haven't seen the front of it in who knows when.

bookshelf after: Look! My wedding book is visible!

books after, on an unused shelf
(this project took less than 5-10 mintues)

  1. You reminded me I have to do our coat closet soon. The really heavy winter stuff is still hanging and it is spring. Great job Kate!
